The CHERRY eHealth terminal ST-1506 is a gematik-approved stationary card terminal for telematics infrastructure applications. It has four card slots for eGK, eHBA, SMC-B and gSMC-KT as well as a contactless reader for NFC-enabled cards.
The high-resolution touchscreen and easy-to-disinfect glass surface ensure comfortable and hygienic operation in healthcare settings. The terminal is suitable for use in medical practices, hospitals, medical centers, and pharmacies, among other places.

Since its approval by gematik in March 2021, the CHERRY eHealth terminal has become an indispensable component in many medical practices, clinics, and pharmacies, and now, with the addition of the eHealth PIN pad, it offers the ideal complement for numerous telematics infrastructure applications.

The terminal supports connecting Mac devices via USB-ECM. An additional USB port allows for the connection of the optional CHERRY eHealth PIN pad PP-1516.

Technical advantages

The CHERRY eHealth terminal ST-1506 is approved by gematik for use within the telematics infrastructure.

The terminal offers card slots for eGK, HBA, SMC-B, and g-SMC-KT and supports gSMC-KT 2.1 cards. ESD protection is also provided for electrostatically charged cards in the eGK and HBA slots. Up to three SMC-B cards can be used simultaneously.
Hygienic materials
The touchscreen glass surface is easily disinfected. Furthermore, the device is already prepared for reading contactless cards via NFC interfaces.

Easy to disinfect and robust: the glass surface of the eHealth terminal ensures optimal hygiene and thus helps to minimize the spread of germs and viruses. Its high-resolution color display enables good usability and intuitive operation.
The true strengths of the eHealth terminal lie within: Four card slots and a contactless reader enable authentication and connection to the digital healthcare network – the telematics infrastructure. The electronic health card (eGK) and the healthcare professional ID card (HBA) are accepted, as are the SMC-B and gSMC-KT cards. ESD protection for electrostatically charged cards ensures reliable operation year-round.
You have the choice: the CHERRY eHealth Terminal can be connected to your network via LAN (power supply or PoE) or USB. The USB connection is particularly easy and convenient thanks to the CHERRY "eHealth USB-LAN Proxy" software. In addition, the CHERRY eHealth PIN pad can also be connected to the eHealth Terminal via USB.
Thanks to the REST API, all settings of the eHealth terminal (e.g., entering the SMC-B PIN) can be configured remotely via a web browser. The VPN client also supports the use of TI-as-a-Service infrastructures. This makes the terminal future-proof for processes within the evolving TI (Telematics Infrastructure).
Approved and awarded
The terminal is approved by gematik for use in the telematics infrastructure and has been awarded the IF Design Award.

Technical strengths
The technical strengths of the CHERRY eHealth Terminal ST-1506 for IT professionals and practice owners or pharmacists.
Starting with firmware version 3.x, the ST-1506 e-health terminal supports the establishment of a direct VPN connection between the terminal and a VPN gateway. This allows connectors operating in a data center to establish a direct, secure connection to the terminal in the healthcare provider environment. This may be necessary, for example, for TI-as-a-Service environments. It increases reliability and minimizes maintenance efforts.

- Access data: MSCHAP via username/password & EAP TLS via certificate-based authentication
- Administration via web interface or web service
This security card, mandated by the BSI (Federal Office for Information Security), serves to increase the security level in the telematics infrastructure (TI), particularly with regard to patient data. All previous gSMC-KT versions are technically supported; however, after the switch to elliptic curves, only the new gSMC-KT 2.1 will be usable.
Note regarding validity period: The decision regarding the duration of use of specific cryptographic algorithms in the German healthcare system is determined by gematik in coordination with the BSI (Federal Office for Information Security). Therefore, when using gSMC-KT in the telematics infrastructure, variations in the validity period of individual cards in the field may occur.
Using a REST API, all terminal settings can be configured remotely via a web interface or web service. This offers significant advantages:
- Increased convenience through read/write access
- Time savings during installation and remote maintenance
- Enhanced monitoring through increased functionality
The REST API function also enables remote PIN entry of the SMC-B, making it ideal for larger institutions with data centers or for TI-as-a-Service environments.
